🌿 Create a Chemical-Free Garden
Stop using commercial pesticides and use homemade organic deterrents if needed. Initially it can be a battle, but eventually nature will create a balance between insects and their natural predators. Many insects and small creatures like frogs, spiders, ladybirds, lacewings and praying mantis are beneficial to garden plants, feasting on unwanted bugs if the garden is chemical-free. Insect-eating birds like the Cape White Eyes will soon be around for a daily meal!
🐦 Plant Trees and Shrubs for Birds
Trees and shrubs provide valuable perching and nesting sites for birds. Wagtails and Robins will nest in creepers growing on trellis or up a wall.
🪱 Look After Your Soil
By not digging deeply into the garden soil, except when planting, will help increase the population of earthworms and beetle larvae, both very necessary in the nutrition and health of the soil.

Any grasses will attract birds as they supply nutrition and food, plus excellent building materials for nests. Fruit-bearing trees like Aloe, Acacia or Searsia Crenata provide both nectar and food for birds.

Bees are vital for the pollination of plants so grow a variety of different heights and shapes with blue, purple, yellow or white flowers to attract them like Salvias, Lavender, Nepeta, Calendula, Borage, Rosemary, Foxgloves, Buddlia, and Bottlebrush.
🦋 Attract Beautiful Butterflies
Butterflies will be attracted to Verbenas, Lobelia, Cape Honeysuckle, Gazanias and Daisies.
💧 Provide Fresh Water
Water is important for drinking and bathing so provide birdbaths for the birds and shallow saucers on the ground with a few pebbles and some water for bees to drink safely from.
